It’s not so hard to predict the players who are obviously going to make a major impact on the biggest stages in the Premier League. But who are the hidden gems — who are the diamonds in the rough? Some fans will be familiar with the players we list here, especially if the players are with your favorite club, but most of the world is largely oblivious to these five starlets who we feel have a good chance of coming out of nowhere to make a splash during this season.
Jordan Amavi, Aston Villa
French football fans probably won’t think of Amavi as a hidden gem thank to the way he ripped Ligue 1 to shreds this last season, but for most Premier League fans he’s unknown.
Experts have called him everything from “promising if rough on the edges” to France’s left-back this last season. It’s hard to say how well he’ll do settling in to a new league, but nobody doubts he could become a real star.
Think of Amavi as a particularly early version of Gael Clichy, from back when Clichy landed in the Premier League with Arsenal.
Joe Gomez, Liverpool
Liverpool’s fans are trying not to get too carried away when it comes to Joe Gomez, as the man’s 90 cumulative minutes of Australia playing time have produced plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Continue reading “Our Predictions For This Season’s Premier League Hidden Gems”
